Dragon Ball Xenoverse was the first game to put a created character inside the Dragon Ball timeline as a Time Patroller, fixing fights that history has been altered to lose.

It is a simpler game than its sequel, with a tighter focus on the original story arcs and a smaller hub, but the core idea works from the start - your own fighter standing alongside Goku in a battle you know the outcome of, except now it is going wrong.
