Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order follows Cal Kestis, a padawan who survived Order 66 and has been hiding as a scrapper ever since. It is a single-player, story-driven action game with no multiplayer and nothing to buy, which by 2019 had become unusual for a Star Wars release.

The combat is built on deliberate blocking and parrying rather than volume, and the worlds are interconnected in a way that rewards coming back with abilities you did not have the first time. BD-1, the small droid on Cal's back, is both the map and the reason several routes eventually open.
