Days Gone puts you on a motorcycle in post-outbreak Oregon as Deacon St. John, a drifter and bounty hunter with no particular interest in saving anyone. The bike is the centre of the game - it needs fuel, it takes damage, and running out of either a long way from a settlement is a real problem.

The hordes are what the game is built around. Hundreds of infected moving as a single mass, and early on the only correct response is to leave. Coming back later with the traps and firepower to actually take one down is the arc the whole game is pointing at.
