FIFA 22 is built on HyperMotion, which was exclusive to the PlayStation 5 version and is the clearest generational change the series made. Motion capture from full eleven-versus-eleven matches feeds an animation system that produces movement the previous engine simply could not.

Goalkeepers were rewritten the same year, with better positioning and more believable reactions, and the result is that shots which used to be automatic no longer are.
