Killzone Shadow Fall was Guerrilla Games' launch title for the PlayStation 4, and it still works as a showcase for what the console could do. Thirty years after the war that ended the previous trilogy, the Helghast and the Vektans live on opposite sides of a wall that splits a single city in two.

You play Lucas Kellan, a Shadow Marshal working the gap between the two halves. The campaign leans harder on infiltration than the earlier games did, giving you open, vertical levels and an OWL drone that can zip-line you across a gap, stun a room, or lay down covering fire while you reposition.

What stands out

• A campaign built around a divided city, with levels that open up rather than funnel you down a corridor
• The OWL combat drone, redirected with a swipe on the touchpad for shields, zip-lines, stuns and suppressing fire
• Competitive multiplayer with class-based loadouts and player-defined match rules
